Delicious pizza & other good eats in a bustling spot

It’s easy to get excited about dining discoveries in Singapore. There’s something to appeal to foodies, working professionals, students… in short, everybody. Just as the Singapore skyline is seeing new commercial developments, so too have Singapore restaurants been sprouting everywhere. One of the most frequented places to eat in Singapore is Tampines.

I’m among the frequent visitors of the Tampines Round Market and I’ve also tried dining in the family-friendly Singapore restaurants in the area. One has even been ingrained in my mind for its super delicious chilli crab. Also among my favorites are the flavorsome Chinese specialties.

When my family or friends visit and we dine out, pizza’s often on their minds. I love pizza, too, `specially the thin crust options brimming with my favorite toppings. Whenever we’re hit by intense pizza cravings, some names of Singapore restaurants immediately come to mind. These include the popular pizza chains Pizza Hut and Domino’s. Leave it to these marketing-savvy companies to churn out interesting pizza flavors every now and then. Dominoes Singapore now offers cheese overload, much to the delight of pizza lovers who want delicious cheesy flavor.

Not to be overlooked is Pelican Pizza, with its tasty toppings (like minced beef, salami, shrimp, tomatoes, cheese, mushrooms, black olives & onions) on standard-size crust. Other mouthwatering flavors cater to veggie eaters, or meat or seafood lovers. An additional tasty option is the BBQ chicken wings.

There are other must-visit Singapore restaurants in Tampines offering terrific pizzas and other entrees that whet the appetite and leave diners craving for more.

Sinking my teeth into Hainanese chicken rice & other must-have food

There are so many things to love about Singapore, foremost of which are the tasty cuisines with influences from the east and west. One of my favorite foods which I seek out in Singapore restaurants and hawker stalls is hainanese chicken.

There’s a coffee shop I discovered after looking around at the shops at Tampines one weekend, and it serves a satisfying plateful of hainanese chicken rice. This delectable dish of Chinese origin is definitely a palate pleaser.

Foodies who cook say the technique to making hainanese chicken is to poach the chicken lightly (after preliminary steps like giving it a sea salt scrub and stuffing the chicken cavity with ginger and spring onions) and also having at hand condiments like spicy chilli sauce and dark soy sauce. One of the best Singapore restaurants situated in the Orchard Road area offers its highly acclaimed hainanese chicken dish. As for me, I’m happy enough with Tampines and hawker centers in other places.

Tender and tasty chicken pieces served with grainy rice, with chilli on the side can be a highly appetizing meal. With my food craving satisfied, I look around at Tampines and wonder where my next food jaunt will be. Will it be a burger joint? Nah! A Mediterranean restaurant probably in some other location. Or perhaps a fancy French dining destination. I find promising new Singapore restaurants wherever I go.

I don’t think I’ll get tired of eating comfort foods at Tampines, though. I haven’t even explored half of the Singapore restaurants there. Friends say they’ve had the opportunity to try spicy chilli crab and good pasta in one of the restaurants in Tampines, and that’s what I’m excited to try – soon.

Enjoying fresh bounty from the sea

I’m a seafood lover. Among the dishes I really really love are Singapore chili crab and fresh prawns in whatever way it’s cooked – grilled, stir-fried, added to pasta or thick yellow noodles with dark soy sauce, pork squid and some veggies, baked or cooked some other way. My Singapore food hunts have always led me to foods I keep craving for, especially when a good dining experience becomes lodged in the mind.

Today, for instance, I am yearning for Seafood Aglio, a classic Italian pasta dish cooked with garlic and olive oil and strewn with prawns, squid, mussels and calamari. I tried this dish once at Eighteen Chefs in the Tampines vicinity and it was simply delicious! At Eighteen Chefs, I was able to concoct my own desired pasta dish, and go as creamy as I wanted. Diners could choose their preferred sauce and main ingredient.

While enjoying my Singapore food at Eighteen Chefs, I noticed that there were many youngsters opting for the student meal that included ice lemon tea and a scoop of ice-cream. Now that’s a yummy treat.

Besides prawns, I also love eating salmon. Not only is it delicious; it’s healthy, too. I can’t describe how happy I was upon sampling a huge chunk of salmon with creamy orange sauce at Eighteen Chefs.

Have I mentioned I’m a sushi lover, too? Singapore food, Japanese cuisine… These are the foods that I keep hankering for. What’s great is that I get to enjoy these Singapore food options – in Tampines or other good places to eat in Singapore – at wallet-friendly prices.

Tasty Singapore food all in one spot

Locals and visitors who want Singapore food that’s delicious yet budget-friendly can find many nice Singapore restaurants in Tampines. As a long-time Singapore dweller, I’ve stumbled into food haunts while going on a leisurely stroll or hanging out with friends.

When it comes to satisfying my cravings for foods – from generous servings of pizza with tasty toppings, to delectable chilli crab, springy noodles, or even thick slices of salmon and enjoyable desserts and exotic eats, Tampines is the place to go to.

Whenever I’m in the mood for a steaming bowl of Chinese-Singapore food, I head towards Tampines. There I can savor to my heart’s content everything from dim sum to Hainanese chicken rice, Hokkien mee, noodles and congee, to fresh seafoods, without breaking the bank. In fact, even after I’ve stuffed myself, I still have money left over for shopping.

One time when I was invited to Crystal Jade Kitchen by a potential business partner, I immensely enjoyed every dish we ordered. With pork bone soup, we got off on the right note. There was roast duck that seemed too large even for two hungry diners. Mmmm..really yummy! The diners beside our table had marinated lamb and beef, and it also looked divine.

Another appetizing option may be to go for the steamboat buffet, which is sure to send tummies growling with joy. Offered by other dining destinations elsewhere, the steamboat buffet at the Tampines restaurant offers a wide range of delectable Singapore food, including four kinds of appetizers; fresh, succulent prawns; mushrooms and seafood balls of different types, veggie and meat dishes.

Indulging & Savoring Singaporean Eats

Exploring marvelous Singapore won’t be complete without trying to experience at least one of the cozy chill-out places in places like Tampines, situated in the eastern part of Singapore, where the leading suburban mall is. It’s one of the enjoyable places to eat in Singapore.

I’ve been in Singapore for almost a year and after the first four dinners I’ve had, I’ve come to realize one thing: Singapore food is not all Oriental food. It’s also not what some people may imagine – dishes outdone by chilli peppers or drowned out by flavorful sauces.

Singapore cuisine is a wonderful medley of flavors from east and west. You can have spicy Indian fare or nyonya food, American-style burgers, authentic Italian pasta & pizza, or all of these in one food center. At Tampines, you can have all the foods you may be craving for, and marvel at how some of the good places to eat in Singapore have sprouted here, Most of them are out to please, and use only high quality fresh ingredients.

So if you’re like me who has decided to spend some time in Singapore (for work and leisure), chill out! While in this part of the world, seek out the best food stalls serving local favorites and the family dining establishments that go to great lengths to offer customers tasty dishes, friendly service, and exciting promotional offers.

If you’re hankering for something besides your usual Singapore food, try other palate pleasers, like sweet & delicious chili crab salad or salmon salad, at the food place called F.I.S.H in Tampines. The mere mention of these dishes can make a foodie salivate. These dining options are kinda pricey. Then again, diners may avail of the Eat-All-You-Can salad bar at an affordable price. Choose any main course and the salad bar can be enjoyed at an even lower price. Defintiely one of the nice places to eat in Singapore.

Hanging out in a place with good eats

Once in a rare while, I hang out with friends at Tampines Mall, and it’s just great to find Singapore restaurants or mini food stores to ease hunger pangs. I noticed that eateries have sprouted in Tampines. Good for often-hungry souls like me who love hanging around in the place. Whether I want ice-cream, xiao long bao (steamed dumplings)and steamed chicken soup, baked rice, kaya toast, chicken, pizza & pasta, or desserts like mango sago, there’s bound to be a food store.

When the day’s about to end and I’m still at the mall, I get a craving for certain foods. Last night, for instance, I just had the sudden urge to eat hot & delicious roasted pork pastry (cha siew shu) at Imperial Treasure. I also feel like ordering deep-fried tofu that’s crispy on the outside but smooth on the inside. My cravings for Asian food hit me more often now, especially since I’ve come to discover so many good places to eat in Singapore.

Incidentally, a friend of mine I was just chatting with recommended one of the Singapore restaurants over at the Tampines Round Hawker Centre. The hawker centre is known for serving lots of classic Singaporean dishes at affordable prices. The must-try dining destionation is Sheng Li Restaurant, whose chef has participated in international cooking competitions. One of his innovations is a unique dish -- spareribs flavored with coffee. Interesting, huh? The restaurant also has kang kong (Water Convolvulus) with spicy, shrimpy, sambal.

If queuing at Tampines Round Hawker Centre gives you a bid headache, you can opt for Singapore restaurants like Din Tai Fung that not only offers palate pleasers like delicate steamed dumplings (which you’d want to keep having again and again) but also maintain a hassle-free, efficient serving system.

My insatiable appetite for Chinese noodles & desserts

Hawker stalls selling delicious Singapore food like noodles are a common sight in Tampines. I make it a point to get a steaming bowl of curry chicken noodles every chance I get from the hawker stall in Tampines since I started to live in Singapore a couple of years ago. I like going to Xing Ji to slurp chewy, delicious noodles for breakfast. Sometimes I go there with co-workers for lunch.

There’s always a queue at the Tampines hawker center, but it has never stopped me from getting my favorite Singapore food. Noodle dishes, apart from traditional wanton noodles, are very affordable at Xing Ji, prompting most diners to have second helpings.

I have other food cravings, too. When I’m in Tampines, alone or with friends,

I salivate at the sight of delicious desserts sold in the hawker center. I really like House of Dessert’s Bubor Cha Cha, a thick porridge with slices of banana, cubes of sweet potato, and tapioca pearls. These tasty ingredients are added to coconut milk soup with palm sugar. One time I tried the iced watermelon, another very cheap and enticing dessert with watermelon balls in ground-up ice, smothered with coconut milk and sugar and topped by corn kernels. If you have a sweet tooth like me, you’d be super delighted with such desserts at Tampines.

After wading my way into the different territories and places to eat in Singapore, I have come to love eateries where the cooks and food store owners imbibe a passion for food and have a generous, intuitive, and creative spirit. These qualities are not necessarily confined to fine dining restaurants. Chefs and restaurateurs who grew up watching meals prepared from scratch, and can whip up foods that please the palate are among the best. It all boils down to very delicious, comforting Singapore food served to customers.
